Converting Cloud Spend Into Competitive Advantage:

How Mission Helped Tinuiti Optimize Its AWS Media Engine

Executive Summary

Tinuiti, a leading independent media agency, partnered with Mission Cloud to overhaul its AWS infrastructure and rein in a growing cloud bill. A previous partner had gone silent, leaving real savings on the table. Mission stepped in with concrete recommendations, guided Tinuiti through SOC 2 Type 2 certification, and helped drop its monthly AWS spend by $200,000 within a year through Reserved Instance Operations (RIO), freeing up resources the agency now channels into engineering and AI initiatives.

About We Insure

Tinuiti is a media agency that not only builds brands, but architects business outcomes. Guided by its mission to “Love Growth. Hate Waste.”, Tinuiti creates immediate and lasting growth for clients. At the center is Tinuiti’s Bliss Point Marketing Operating System – the ultimate brand and performance unifier – which fuels decisions across Audience, Creative, Media and Measurement. Tinuiti’s AWS environment supports the data and measurement capabilities its teams use to make faster, more accountable decisions for clients.

[Not engaging with Mission] easily could have led to several million dollars out the door over the past few years. Everything would have taken longer. Having Mission help us save costs and get to compliance quickly was incredibly valuable compared to grinding it out ourselves.

Background

Tinuiti built its cloud on AWS starting with BlissPoint roughly ten years ago, back when AWS stood nearly alone in the market. The agency wanted dependable storage and compute rather than an exotic feature set, and AWS delivered on both counts from day one.

Challenge

As Tinuiti’s data and measurement capabilities expanded, the cloud environment supporting them needed to become more efficient, secure and adaptable. AWS spending had grown, a series of security and operational findings needed to be resolved for SOC 2 Type 2 certification, and Tinuiti’s engineers were balancing that work against product and client priorities. Tinuiti needed a partner that could identify verified savings, close compliance gaps quickly and continuously adjust the environment as workloads changed.

Why Mission

Mission earned Tinuiti’s confidence by focusing on its actual workloads and validating every recommendation against the numbers. The team identified immediate savings opportunities and helped address infrastructure issues before the full managed-services engagement began. That early impact demonstrated that Mission could provide ongoing value rather than a one-time assessment.

Why AWS

AWS stood as the clear best cloud option when BlissPoint began its migration roughly a decade ago. Tinuiti wanted dependable storage and compute above all else, and AWS covered the basics without complication. Existing marketing-side relationships with other cloud providers existed, but AWS always checked every box.

The flexibility that RIO offered, and the amount of thought and care that went into figuring out our exact machine load and adapting with us as we moved workloads, was exactly what we wanted. Instead of saying, well, this is what we set up, and you can fix it in three years, RIO allowed us to adapt to our changing workloads in almost real time.

Solution

Mission addressed cost, performance and compliance as connected priorities.

Its engineers worked directly within Tinuiti’s environment to resolve security and operational findings associated with SOC 2 Type 2 certification. Through Reserved Instance Operations and Cloud Foundation, Mission also continuously evaluated workloads, configurations and purchasing commitments to identify practical savings.

Recommendations included moving selected compute workloads from x86 to Arm-based instances, tuning Amazon Redshift and adjusting reserved-instance commitments as Tinuiti’s needs changed. This gave Tinuiti greater flexibility than a fixed, multiyear purchasing strategy while continuing to lower costs.

Mission also provided ongoing support for day-to-day requests and a direct path to AWS when more complex issues required escalation.

Results

Within one year, Tinuiti reduced its monthly AWS run rate by $200,000, creating approximately $2.4 million in annualized savings.

The impact extended beyond the cloud bill. Improvements to compute workloads and Amazon Redshift accelerated batch processing, allowing daily reports and dashboards to arrive earlier. Analysts could begin their day with current information already available rather than waiting for processing to finish.

Mission also helped Tinuiti complete its SOC 2 Type 2 certification faster by resolving findings that the internal team lacked the capacity to address quickly.

Tinuiti can now direct more investment toward engineering and AI while operating from a more efficient, secure and adaptable cloud foundation.

Tinuiti now has a cloud environment that costs less, responds faster and adapts as the business grows. Mission’s ongoing recommendations give the team greater confidence to invest in new engineering and AI capabilities without carrying avoidable infrastructure waste.
