3 Cloud Migration Success Stories to Motivate Your Migration

3 Cloud Migration Success Stories to Motivate Your Migration
6:46

Introduction:

In today's ever-evolving digital landscape, cloud computing has become an indispensable technology for businesses of all sizes. Migrating to the cloud can provide numerous benefits, including cost savings, scalability, enhanced security, and access to cutting-edge technologies. However, the prospect of undertaking a cloud migration can be daunting, with concerns about potential disruptions, data integrity, and the overall complexity of the process. To alleviate these fears and inspire confidence, let's explore three real-world success stories that showcase the transformative power of cloud migration.

Why are Cloud Migrations Intimidating?

Cloud migrations can seem overwhelming for several reasons. First, there's the challenge of transitioning mission-critical applications and data from familiar on-premises environments to the cloud, which may involve significant architectural changes. Additionally, concerns about potential downtime, data loss, and the impact on business operations can create apprehension. Furthermore, the complexity of cloud environments, with their various services and pricing models, can make the migration process appear daunting.

Ways to Make Cloud Migrations Less Intimidating

While cloud migrations undoubtedly present challenges, there are strategies and best practices that can alleviate concerns and ensure a smoother transition. Careful planning, thorough assessment of existing infrastructure, and a phased migration approach can mitigate risks and minimize disruptions. Additionally, partnering with experienced cloud migration experts and leveraging proven methodologies can significantly increase the chances of success.

Success Stories Illustrating Value Propositions

Now, let's explore three inspiring success stories that showcase the tangible benefits of cloud migration across different industries and use cases.

Success Story 1 - Reduced Load Times

While currently using Google Cloud Platform and Vertex AI, the company wanted to explore whether a more cost-effective model training solution was possible with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and turned to Mission Cloud for help. Mission Cloud developed a highly performant and cost-optimized storage solution using Amazon FSx for Lustre for the company to train its large language model on AWS.

Mission Cloud successfully proved a training solution on AWS that met all of the company’s requirements while using its existing training framework, one that would allow research scientists to seamlessly initiate training jobs in the cloud. It demonstrated a 50% reduction in loading times and associated reductions in experimentation time when compared to the incumbent system because of the flexibility provided by AWS' compute resource model.

Success Story 2 - Scalability

Examity needed to increase the scalability, availability, and security of its Microsoft Azure cloud environment to handle spikes in workload demand on the company's learning validation platform. As the Covid pandemic prompted both higher-education and professional customers to move more test-takers to remote testing, the need to achieve these requirements escalated. To take on the challenge, Examity decided Amazon Web Services (AWS) would be a better cloud provider. Examity then turned to Mission Cloud to lead the migration to AWS. Mission Cloud advised that it would be best for Examity to leverage the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) to efficiently accelerate the project and reduce costs. Mission Cloud used an infrastructure-as-code approach to the cloud design and integrated the environment with an existing continuous integration and development (CI/CD) pipeline. They also enabled Examity to accelerate the roll-out of development, test, staging, and production environments, while reducing software development lifecycles. The results were immediate and impressive, as the new AWS environment sped up database response times and served static images faster. At the same time, Examity increased its security posture (with end-to-end encryption on AWS EC2 servers that helps maintain SOC 2 compliance) and now benefits from high availability through improved recovery point and recovery time objectives (RPO and RTO). The partnership with Mission Cloud (compared to hiring 4-5 internal resources) also reduced the design, build, and implementation costs for Examity by 30%.

Success Story 3 - Security and Compliance

Intruity, a SaaS provider of applications for the insurance industry, wanted to migrate its on-premises IT infrastructure to the cloud. Objectives included improving disaster recovery capabilities, application performance, scalability capacity, enhancing the infrastructure's security posture, and streamlining compliance audits. Intruity chose Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the ideal cloud environment and partnered with Mission Cloud to architect the new infrastructure. Key AWS services configured by Mission Cloud include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), AWS Directory Service, AWS Security Hub, AWS CloudTrail, AWS Config, and AWS Backup. The migration to AWS increased application uptime, resiliency, and response times while also creating a scalable architecture to reduce the time to spin up new servers from 1 hour down to 30 minutes and to expand capacity for clients. The environment also switches users automatically to a backup data center if the primary data center fails and removes the need for the internal IT team to manage systems and backups. Intruity has also strengthened its security posture and streamlined SOC 2 compliance audits. From a cost standpoint, initial infrastructure costs decreased by 30% through server right-sizing and private pricing offered by Mission Cloud, and the cloud infrastructure lowers the cost of new servers by 25% compared to the on-premises data center.
